Community Impact

Community Impact is positive change in a community over time. The changes are measurable, sustainable and meet current and emerging needs within the community.

United Way of Greater Milwaukee strengthens our community through the Community Impact Fund, which supports more than 160 programs at over 80 agencies that are held accountable to produce results. All funded programs are reviewed annually for effectiveness and efficiency.

Benefits of giving to United Way’s Community Impact Fund:

  • Program oversight ensures program effectiveness
  • Local impact through local investment
  • Focuses on priorities, the critical issues in our community

Through the Community Impact Fund, United Way will help more than 425,000 people this year.

Ensuring a Safety Net

United Way’s Safety Net provides critical resources that help people overcome immediate challenges.

Goal: To empower people to succeed by connecting them to the help they need to overcome existing challenges in their lives.

Program examples: Emergency food and shelter, after-school help for kids, mentoring programs, safe havens for abused women and children, and help that allows older adults and people with disabilities to gain or keep independence.

Breaking the Cycle of Poverty

United Way focuses on long-term strategies to help people build and sustain better lives, improving the outlook for future generations.

Goal: To address problems at their roots to create lasting, sustainable change that benefits our entire community. Ultimately, to get Milwaukee off the Top-10 list of the nation’s most impoverished communities.

Strategies: Early Childhood Education improves early literacy, leading to an increased high school graduation rate; Financial Stability matches savings for postsecondary education and home ownership; Healthy Girls reduces teen pregnancy and sexual violence against teens; and Job Training supports adult education and skill-building for employment.
